ART    ENVIRONMENT     COMMUNITY

Although most people are aware of  relevant environmental issues such as shifts in climate , shrinking resources, deforestation and the lack of fresh water, change is not happening at a rate which is sufficient enough to counteract the ongoing damage. The problem is not of one nation, or the fault of one people but is rather a toxic byproduct caused by years of irresponsible lifestyle choices,  and the modernization of our world.

Born out of the desire to raise public awareness and generate positive change, THE GREENKEY PROJECT examines the crucial environmental issues we all face through the use of Contemporary Art and cross cultural exchange. The endeavour created by Honeycomb Arts is at its core a cycle of expeditions which place selected artists in rural locations where they can disconnect from their busy lives and reconnect with nature. While on location, artist teams conduct cultural and environmental research, interact with indigenous and regional communities through collaborative art endeavors and produce pieces that either address specific problems or function to benefit the local environment and community.

THE GREENKEY PROJECT gives invited artists the opportunity to make a difference and use their voices to highlight the environmental dilemmas affecting communities that are often overlooked or marginalized. While artist teams investigate the location they are visiting and learn from the people who live there, they also give back to establish a catalyst for mutual acceptance and growth. Through the project, the function, potential and purpose of art is questioned.  The commercial aspect of Contemporary Art is eliminated and the work is transformed into a tool for communication that transcends language and cultural differences. It becomes a way for us to make a positive impact,  collaborate with each other, learn, teach, love, and advocate something that is essential to our collective future.
